Rounding the Bases: Chris Learns to Read
by Maggie Dail Available December 2010 Review: Chris is a 12 year old boy who loves baseball and is good at it. There is one thing that embarrasses and frustrates him, however: he struggles to read. His parents want to help but aren’t sure how to proceed. This is the beginning of the book Rounding the Bases: Chris Learns to Read. The author has cleverly written this book for struggling readers
and their parents. It is a chapter book about a boy who is
struggling to learn to read but is just not getting the help he
needs in public school. It is also about the help that he and his
parents find in the Neurodevelopmental approach to learning. The
book is a gentle, pleasant read, and there is a nice bonus section
at the end with good resources and three excellent articles. For the sake of full disclosure, I am a mom with several
struggling learners in our family. We are using the
Neurodevelomental approach with some of our children and have found
it to be extremely helpful and beneficial. This book is a good
introduction to the method, and I recommend it if you have a child
who could use a little, or a lot, of help. Rounding the Bases:
